Location
Martindale Hall is about 130 kilometres north of Adelaide -- an easy drive of less than two hours -- amid more than 30 wineries that have helped make scenic Clare Valley one of the world's most highly regarded wine-producing regions.
With its rare combination of physical beauty, intriguing history, exceptional wine and food, and laid-back charm, the Clare Valley will keep visitors busy and fascinated for several days.
Things to do & see
Explore the Clare Valley wineries, many of which are small, boutique wineries whose owners will personally welcome visitors and provide them with a taste of their delicious produce.
Cycle the Riesling Trail, which follows about 27 kilometres of disused railway line from the village of Auburn to the township of Clare. Discover the historic village of Mintaro , only two kilometres from Martindale Hall. Mintaro is best explored on foot and provides a remarkable example of a 19th-century stopover used by thirsty copper miners travelling from Burra.
Pop into the village's Magpie & Stump hotel [c. 1855] for a drink before tackling the Mintaro Maze. On second thoughts, maybe it's best to tackle the maze before having a drink.
Visit the world-renowned Mintaro Slate quarry, which is still operating after 150 years. |
